And what are sports without competition? In that vein, The One Club has decided that sports ads should be competitive too, and they’re asking for your help in holding a competition between commercials about competition choosing the Top 10 Sports Commercials from their One Show Archive. If you’re not a sports fan, there’s still PLENTY of creativity to admire, and if you are, well, you’re about to have a field day reviewing the most inventive and inspiring sports vignettes to ever hit the airwaves. Plus Will Ferrell.
Not so subtle prodding: our very own NYC, Portland, and Amsterdam shops are in the running, so head over and vote. Or die!
Of course, if no clear winner emerges from all of this, a two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion is crowned.
On a warm Wednesday evening earlier this week, WKNY and Heineken took over the corner of Lafayette and Great Jones with a surprise performance featuring Brooklyn-born TV on the Radio.
As part of the “Occasionally Perfect” campaign for Heineken Light, the billboard sat patiently on that corner for over week quietly declaring “This billboard is occasionally perfect.” Finally on August 17, it delivered with a 30 minute set from TV on the Radio, featuring the following songs :
Young Liars
Staring At the Sun
Repetition
Wolf Like Me
Tweets and Facebook posts went out a little over hour before the show was scheduled to start, regardless the street was mobbed with adoring fans and stopped traffic.
There’s much more coming from this campaign so stay tuned. Our billboard’s always down to travel.
We’ve been working with an awesome organization, called the Ghetto Film School, for a while and have seen them do some pretty amazing stuff. Their latest and greatest bit of awesomeness needs you!
GFS made some spec ESPN spots for our “It’s Not Crazy, It’s Sports” campaign that we’re pretty big fans of… especially considering they were completely DIY with almost no budget. Now, they’re hosting a competition to see which one of these spots is the world’s favorite. The top spot will be featured on ESPNRISE.COM.
Take a second to visit GFS’s YouTube page and watch some of these masterpieces and then vote for your favorite by liking it. That’s all.
Voting ends on Friday… so get there quick and spread the word. These kids rocked it hard and deserve the attention!
On a hot Thursday afternoon 4 brave contestants, Kevin, Mike, Erica and Matt stood before dozens of Nathan’s Hot Dogs and many soon-to-be nauseated (visually) WKNY onlookers – all ready to meat their destiny.
Their goal: eat as many as possible in 10 minutes; no partially consumed dogs allowed.
In the end Mike Vitiello, our latest addition to the social media lab here at WKNY, claimed victory with 7 complete hot dogs consumed. Putting down 7 dogs would be a decent number if he were eating competitively back in 1980 but he and Erica Tabacoff sure looked like Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi to us.
“Ah, the sweet taste of victory and processed meats” – Mike V.
Props go out to the always venerable Michael Burch for organizing this glorious, gluttonous, carnivorous showdown (and for all the extra hot dogs for those still hungry afterwards).
