What We Talk About When We Talk About Lunch

I wanted to address a controversial and important topic. Lunch.

Decision-making is hard, people!

Living in NY, good food (both cheap and whoa!) is always a phone call or a five minute walk away. When the clock hits 11:30am, we start the age old discussion. Though we even have a (lovely and artfully font-ed) wall dedicated to hood hot spots, there are constant new favorites and debates about old standbys.

Once Upon A Tart or Sullivan Bakery? Lupe’s or Calexico? Noodle Bar or Mekong? There are the loyal Jazzy’s contingency, who love the convenience. I personally go there for my Utz pretzels, but head over to Getting Hungry for a salad. Ear Inn for burgers? But what about Grey Dog? How many times can one order Rice in one week? Should you always pick up from Souen instead of ordering in, because you’re ordering macrobiotic to be healthy and what’s more healthy than walking? When it’s a rough Friday morning after a long Thursday night, what will save you (my vote: Alidoro)? Does Grand Sichuan deserve the hype? Will the waitstaff at Tart ever give us free cookies? Will Cafe Rheon ever bring back the chocolate chip cookie they had at launch? What does Olives have that puts it above the rest for certain key WKNY lunch players? When is the right time to call Kool Bloo?

These are some of the questions that plague us each day. I ask you- if you had to pick only one place to get lunch each day, what would it be? And don’t you want Fresca in the soda machine? (Fresca 2010!)

I present to you….’Hot Lunch’ from “Fame” (lyrics don’t kick in until 1:35 but Irene Cara rules on this one, and it’s a great ode to cafeteria food, which I do not miss).

You don’t often find a decent website which isn’t just trying to scam you anymore :P

I’ve already bookmarked it so I can come back to it! :)
